“Oh Boy” ✍🏼 by Dan Victor • A soggy monster said. I’m a critter and a lone boy. Chattering my teeth, like a scared little man, hiding in the corner. Deep in shadow, until the chilly specter passes by.
Teeth again permeate so many of my drawings. It may be the way it cuts at the gums. It is somehow satisfying to draw them. Not perfect, flawed teeth… and bugged out eyes.

“Tiger Removed” ✍🏼 by Dan Victor • A hollow shell of an animal. All that’s left are stripes. A bubbling ball of nothing, that is a coat only, without the inside guts.

“New Dress for School” ✍🏼 by Dan Victor • It’s like for the first day after summer vacation. She shows up in a nice outfit her and her mom picked out at their favorite department store. The girl also got her hair done, the way she had seen it in a magazine.
I never understood the importance of looking like everyone else, but competitive about being the best dressed for what is the current trend. Becoming a part of a culture that embraces something for that moment in time.
I want to be a part of something greater than myself, right?
She is not unkind, but still won’t help that kid with his homework.

“Analog Heart” ✍🏼 by Dan Victor • Why do we associate an organ with an emotion? Maybe it’s the place in our bodies emotions dwell, not the organ itself. We make metaphors for the life a heart gives to the rest of its body. Without which we would not stay alive.
A robot, you may assume, could have the most crucial components to a much more strategically placed shielded compartment.
This robot has a heart in its chest because we create life in our own image.

“Wishful Smile” ✍🏼 by Dan Victor • Close your eyes and wish upon a star. Cross your fingers and avoid all the cracks when you walk. Superstition gives a false sense of confidence, in the sense that if you don’t wash your socks, your baseball team will continue to wins, as long as these circumstances are met. It can be damaging if those circumstances aren’t met, it is a way to avoid blaming one’s self. I changes my sock. Next time.
I say a prayer to St. Anthony and I always find what I loose. If it works, why question it?

“Teeth Line Face” ✍🏼 by Dan Victor • A two page sketch. The horizontal lines help give this face perspective. Admittedly an after thought. The face just came a little too close to the crease of the book. Cramped, so those lines opened up the spectrum. Now I think it sits well.
Try looking at it both ways. Cover up the left side, then pull it back. Notice the difference it can make.
He looks like an animated still on a man with metal jaws like teeth. Lazer teeth that slices through food quite effectively.
