“Taking Blood” ✍🏼 by Dan Victor • We all give. We all take. Giving blood, quite literally, is taking a piece of yourself to donate to someone that needs it to save their life.
We often take for granted the impact that our actions have on others. Some positive, some are negative, but we don’t have control over the eventuality of that gift.
Just because we do something we consider ‘nice’ for someone may actually be hurting them. Intention is so important, although someone may take what you say a different way. It is to be expected. We can’t put an expectation of a certain result. As soon as we expect gratitude for the nice thing you do, it no longer becomes nice at all. It is manipulation, with a condition on your behavior.
Do you expect something in return when you donate? Karma? A financial gain? Praise or status? Intend good and do no harm if you can help it.
Even still you WILL hurt people or help them regardless of your intention. All we can control are our motivations to act and the actions we take.⠀⠀
